There's No Time
“Have regular hours for work and play; make each day both useful and pleasant, and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well.”
-Louisa May Alcott
One of the more formidable concepts I’ve come to appreciate over the years is this: in the infinite absolute there is no time. Many times we express this idea by saying, “There is no time in the mind of God,” but what does that really mean? What are the implications for accepting such a concept?
Well, for me, what it does is allows me to let go of anxiety. Anxiety is something I experience only when I am projecting myself into the future. The problem is, the experience of the future doesn’t exist until I experience it, and when I experience it, it is the present. So the future doesn’t exist.
The same goes for regret, which is my re-creating in my mind the experiences from the past. Those past experiences no longer exist except to the degree that I hold on to them and bring them to my present moment.
Through anxiety and regret… I forget to be in the here and now.
So if this moment now is the only thing that exists what choices will you make to live this moment as the best moment you can? Living the present moment as best we can is the greatest way to understand the infinite value of time as an experience. Employ it well!
