The Fabric
“If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is - infinite.”
- William Blake
Everything we do, everything we say, everything we feel, everything we know is part of an infinite fabric of consciousness. All fabric is interwoven or knit threads.
Let’s consider these individual threads akin to our individualized being. Our very being is interwoven with the being-ness of all others. Some of the threads are closer to us than others, but proximity doesn't matter. We are all connected by way of the larger pattern of being, and the fabric stretches out infinitely.
This tapestry wouldn’t and couldn’t be complete without us. While I (doubtfully) suppose it’s possible we could exist without being a part of the whole, we would not be cohesive or supported by anything. We would just be a loose thread.
That’s what it is like to feel alone. We feel like a thread separate from the whole of the fabric of life, and it simply isn’t so.
You are an important part of the whole. You contribute to the cohesive nature of the fabric of life, and without you the fabric is made weaker.
Never underestimate the importance of you in this wonderful thing called life. You make the fabric of life stronger, and you are made strong by being a part of the whole.
