The Purpose Driven Question
“Anything you do,
Let it come from you.
Then it will be new.
Give us more to see.”-Stephen Sondheim
(from the musical Sunday in the Park with George)
What is in your heart to do? Have you given in to that deep-seated desire?
Wait… before you answer… let’s get clear on one thing: this is not really about the “what” but about the “why.” What do you think is the “why” around the desire in your heart — and is that “why” strong enough to actively motivate you toward the fulfillment of that desire?
This is all tied in to your PURPOSE — is your purpose driving your life or are you being driven by “what.” I have worked with many people who can clearly articulate their “what,” but are less able to clarify their “why.”
They live life with these ideas as primary:
"WHAT I should do."
"WHAT I should be."
How is it that we’ve come to place so much focus on the “what” as opposed to the “why?”
What is about how you are perceived by others. If your main motivation is “what” then you might be living based on someone else’s idea of your purpose. In being able to articulate “why” you live your own purpose. To live your “why” means you have the self-esteem, self-respect, and self-reliance to lead a purpose driven life, unencumbered by other’s opinions and judgments.
If all humanity gave in to only living the “what” then we wouldn’t progress and evolve. It is only those who push against the bounds of societal pressure, peer pressure, family pressure who have taken us to the next level.
So what is in your heart to do… and why?
Clarify your "why" in all things, and the things that are most evolutionary for you will reveal themselves. You may find you want to let go of some things in your life. Have the willingness to do so. You will free up your life to more fully invest in the "why."
Let it come from you! Give us more to see!
You are magnificent!
