Enough With The Stuff
One of my favorite songs these days is a great tune by Brendan James called, “Simplify.” It calls for each of us to take stock of the things we hold in our lives and the things that surround us. Basically… it asks us to question things… and simplify our lives.
I’ve had the opportunity to simplify in my life, and usually the opportunity came to me in an unexpected (and not very nice) way. When I was in my mid-twenties I was in a challenging relationship. When I decided to end the relationship, I left the apartment we were living in together I stayed away for a week. Upon returning I walked into a completely empty apartment. Completely empty. It took me by surprise in the moment, yet as I had time to reflect I realized that I ended the relationship with my self-respect, and he left the relationship with a lot of stuff.
Stuff is just stuff. If you lost all your stuff today, would you be able to hold your head high or would you feel defeated or destroyed? Perhaps its time to let go of the mental hold we have on stuff and simplify.
