What Is Creativity?

Do you nurture your creative self? Do you actively engage in creative work?

Creativity is the capacity to see below the level of the obvious, and to use what we find to bring something new into being. To be creative is to allow a balance of intellect and intuition to flourish.

We often align creativity with artistry. When compared to our “everyday work lives“ — doing what has been deemed by culture and society as “important,” — we may consider artistry something frivolous. It’s not. Study after study has shown that those who have greater access and practice in the arts produce better results in the workplace. To remove artistry is a tragedy for our society. Those who have delved into artistry more easily allow creativity in every other area of their lives.

So what is it to create?

To create is to bring something into being. To see possibility where none may have been seen before — and then allowing that possibility to resolve itself in form.

Nurturing and encouraging the creative nature within allows us to broaden our perspective in all aspects of our lives.

The truth is we are all creative — we are creating all the time. Are we, however, limited in our focus of creative solutions or are we broad in the possibility?

By nurturing creativity through artistic endeavors we broaden the possibility of ingenious solutions to infinite problems. We don’t have to be Mozart, or Rembrandt, or even Lady Gaga — all of whom were or are possibly artistic geniuses. They certainly didn’t have an issue with letting their creative artistry flow. We don’t need to be them; we must simply be ourselves. Be the best artist and creator you can be. Encourage the creative nature within by delving deeply into artistic endeavors.

When we do this life becomes a more beautiful experience for all of us. We deepen our awareness of what is really important — connection and cooperation.

So begin to look below the level of the obvious. What is there? Let that something within come to the surface and bless the world with. You are the conduit for that something so don’t block it!
