The Path for Atheists

TODAY’S READING
46.4-48.3

It’s the little things that catch me. Small sentences make me question most deeply. Seemingly off-hand remarks give me the most pause for consideration. It was no different today when I read this toward the end of the reading in The Science of Mind, “If this were not so [that is, one didn’t have faith in one’s own power], only those who by nature have faith in God could ever hope to understand the Principle of the Science of Mind and Spirit.”

I don’t need to believe in God?

I can simply believe in myself?

In short… yes.

First of all let’s go back to understanding what this whole thing is all about: It’s all about the individualized connection to the Infinite wholeness, the creative energy of the entire Universe. You can call that creative energy God if you want to. You don’t have to. I do use the word “God” as a shorthand. Think of God as Good Orderly Direction, or Greatness On Demand. God is not God without you. You are Greatness On Demand. So there is no personified being out there making any decisions or choices for us. We don’t have to believe in IT, we have to believe in OURSELVES.

The swami at the Kauaʻi Hindu Monastery said this a couple days ago when I was visiting, “If God is everywhere, and I am somewhere, then… there.”

All spiritual practice does is allow us an avenue for more clearly and deeply connecting with and understanding our personal connection with the wholeness. We are somewhere, after all, are we not?

So back to this… do you need to believe in God?

My answer is no, especially if you believe God is something other than you.

Can you believe in God outside the self and still utilize the tools of the Science of Mind and Spirit? Absolutely. It is done unto you as you believe. Here is the caveat: that “outside the self God” has as much power and control over you as you believe it does. So, are you giving up you power and the responsibility you can have to create the life you want to something else? It’s a slippery slope when we give our power over to something else.

You are the manifest, magnificence of the Universe!

So believe in YOU! That’s the key!
