The Savior Syndrome

Did you notice in today’s reading the line about the “greatest teacher” becoming the “Savior?” It always catches me when I read about that concept. The greatest teacher Holmes is talking about is Jesus. The Science of Mind and Spirit tends to veer away from its Christian roots publicly, but they are there. I was not brought up with the belief that there was a savior required in my life, or that salvation was even a necessity.
What I have come to believe is that there is some saving needed, but it is not through the belief in a man who is presented as the only link to God. I don’t even think Jesus, the man, would support this notion. This is one of the ways the Science of Mind and Spirit differs from traditional Christianity. In this faith tradition we are all children of God, we should all claim, “the father and I are one.” It is in this belief that we are saved.
We are saved from erroneous thinking when we understand our very nature is that we are of God, not in God or with God… we are the expression in form of the infinite and ineffable.
So what do we need saving from? Our own limited thinking!
