I had a conversation today with my sister. We were talking about a revelation she had based on something that I had shared with her last week when we were in Kauaʻi together. The details of her revelation are not important to this post except to say that what was discovered was the importance of feeling the Spiritual Mind work we do.

Did you notice in today’s reading the line about the “greatest teacher” becoming the “Savior?” It always catches me when I read about that concept. The greatest teacher Holmes is talking about is Jesus.

I’ve been on a wild ride these last 72 hours. It started with leaving Kauaʻi on Saturday. It was a beautiful day and I was feeling quite grounded in resolve for taking the next steps in life. And I am still in this place of resolve. My sister (who had been on the sacred journey) and I decided that we needed to get out and move our bodies. We drove to Keālia Beach and set off on the walking path headed north. We were not even a half mile along when the rain came. Now, in Hawaii there is typically a pattern with rain, it comes and goes quickly. This time? Not so much.

Today’s reading has a phrase which struck me when I first read it, and provides a powerful concept to consider. Should we entertain hope? Ernest Holmes doesn’t think so. He wrote, “Hope is good; it is better than despair, but it is a subtle illusion and and unconscious compromise, and has no part in an effective mental treatment.”

It’s the little things that catch me. Small sentences make me question most deeply. Seemingly off-hand remarks give me the most pause for consideration. It was no different today when I read this toward the end of the reading in The Science of Mind, “If this were not so [that is, one didn’t have faith in one’s own power], only those who by nature have faith in God could ever hope to understand the Principle of the Science of Mind and Spirit.”

I don’t need to believe in God?

I can simply believe in myself?

The journey of life is an unfolding of understanding. Expanding our vessel to receive more, and more, and more.

The experience I have been having on Kauaʻi is beginning to wind down. I see the end approaching and know that the end is the beginning of the next unfolding of understanding.
